Demolition has Started! Love seeing our plans come to life!
Demolition has finally started! It seemed like it took years of planning. Working on architectural plans, selecting a GC and contract legal reviews took longer than expected. There was a part of me that wasn’t sure if we would actually do this.
For the past year, I think all I have watched on TV is HGTV or Magnolia Network. Sometimes it felt a little obsessive. But I am so thankful I did! After the first week of demo, I stopped by the house and it took my breath away. I knew that we had to bring it down to the studs to do it properly. To see your dream home in this state is a but shocking.
Though this house was built in 1910, we didn’t uncover any major issues during demo. Yay!
Below are before and after pictures of the first floor. The first floor unit is where we were living, while planning the renovation. It use to be a full 2 bedroom and 1 bathroom unit. In the future the first floor will be the main entrance of the home with a family room, dining room, powder room and kitchen with a bar.
The below is a view front the front of the house looking at the dining room.
The below is a view from the back door of the kitchen into the hallway.
The below is a view up the staircase to the old second floor unit which will be where all the bedrooms will be in the future.
On the second floor we found something really cool. There were pipes on the floor leading to where lights would be located. I thought they were electrical, but found out that they were gas pipes because the house was built before electricity. We knew it was old, but not that old!
The below images show the original gas pipes and the original gas hook up to a gas lantern.
The next stage in the renovation process is to ensure everything is level and begin to frame out the new structure of the home. This is when we will see the new floor plan start to take form!
